Research
The New School sponsored a 3 year Research project by Birmingham University’s renowned School of Education. The project was concerned with the children who have complex and severe needs which are unrecognised. It considered the difficulties caused by not knowing how many children are out of school without provision and why these, sometime high potential youngsters are the only group denied educational rights.
The University defined these young people as “Pupils who have low self esteem.” They have characteristics associated with terms such as depressed, neurotic, withdrawn or suicidal. They are not pupils who would attract the term Conduct Disruptive.”
