NLP
Our central purpose as a school is to play our part in enabling those who are members of our community to feel that they can increasingly take responsibility for themselves. As they do so they can begin to take control over the lives they live, and they can recognise that they have more and greater choice, where previously the fears and limited expectations that they may have had would have held them back.
In fulfilling this purpose we are increasingly making use of the approaches and techniques provided by Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). NLP provides a model of how we as human beings make sense of our experience, of how we establish patterns of behaviour which are underpinned by our beliefs and values, and how they in turn give us our sense of identity and purpose. When the patterns that we run are successful, in the sense that they assist us to achieve the positive goals we set ourselves, then all’s well and good. However, all too often people can become stuck with behaviours, accompanied by the beliefs and values to match, that limit them and hold them back. The attitudes, ideas, and practices of NLP allow practical ways for people to recognise and to challenge such negative patterns, both in themselves and others.
By establishing a thorough programme of staff training, and by making NLP part of the curriculum, delivered through Self Science, we are now in a position where NLP has become a core aspect of the culture of the school.
By taking a look at the links to the following pages, you can begin to develop a real sense of what we are building and get a flavour of the impact NLP has already had on both staff and students.
What follows are references to just some of the areas that we are involved in. I hope that you’ll enjoy exploring them, and as you do so, begin to recognise the potential there is for NLP to have a powerfully positive impact in all areas of education.
