Our History

West Heath was the school at which Diana Spencer, later to become the Princess of Wales, spent “the happiest days of my life”. Coincidentally it was taken into Receivership the day after the Princess & Dodi Fayed were so tragically killed.

Thanks to Mohamed Al Fayed’s unmatched generosity, The New School opened as a living memorial to them both in September 1998. West Heath 2000, the school’s charitable body, is chaired by Mark Collins & is tenant of the Al Fayed Charitable Foundation Sevenoaks.

The New School’s foundation was the Beth Marie Centre, a Kent C.C. Pupil Referral Unit for traumatised children.

Our Work

We are an independent specialist school for 11 to 18 year olds whose mainstream schooling has broken down but who have average or above academic potential. There are no more than 8 pupils in our classes and a team of Teacher Assistants & Care Staff complement the Specialist Teachers.

Our children come here as a result of the trauma of abuse, horrendous bullying, bereavement or illness.

Our one Aim – to rebuild damaged lives – is achieved by our specialised approach to education.

Our Future

Our planned roll is for 112 pupils of which 35% will be boarders. Currently we have 97 pupils, of which 27 board, based in West Heath’s post war buildings. The DfES, in July 2003 gave the school Approval status; a notable achievement for such a new school.

We have just embarked on the restoration of West Heath’s magnificent mansion which dates from the 18th century. When finished it will provide all the accommodation we need for the school and its principal Reception Rooms will be our Training Centre.

We intend that these superb rooms will also be available for Conferences, Seminars, Soirées, Weddings, Parties, Balls, Concerts … All the profits will solely support the school.

Other work is needed – the refurbishment of the School Hall and Sports Facilities which we also make available to our local community, the restoration of the beautiful grounds, including an Historic American Garden and the provision of car parks & roads.

Our Friends

We have a wide & growing range of Friends. Some simply spread the good news about The School, some give us donations, some run fund-raising events, some work with our youngsters. Many famous people have come & told them about their own experiences.

Please give us your name & address so that we can keep you in touch with us.

Fund A Child’s Education

Nineteen Education Authorities finance pupils at the school which we could fill with such “Statemented” children many times over.

However, there are countless numbers, many of whom have felt so desperate about life that they have tried suicide, who do not have the protection of a “Statement”. The State has abandoned them to only 5 hours a week home tuition. We are determined not to abandon these forgotten children.

These are the youngsters for whom our Friends work so hard - individuals, firms, organisations and companies. All their Fund Raising efforts go solely to the Bursary Fund - F.A.C.E. Fund A Child’s Education.

Help for Tomorrow

The building & fitting out work requires many £100,000’s.

We are launching a campaign to find Sponsors - Corporate, Trust Fund, personal & others - to help.

Rooms & facilities can be named after the sponsors.

We are always looking for fund-raising ideas for F.A.C.E.
